Banda Aceh City

Banda Aceh is the provincial capital and largest city in the province of Aceh, Indonesia, located on the island of Sumatra.

Banda Aceh was not frequently the subject of international discussion until 26 December 2004, the day the Indian Ocean earthquake struck off the western coast of Sumatra.

Banda Aceh was the closest major city to the earthquake's epicenter, and suffered further damage when a tsunami struck shortly afterward. It was the worst hit area out of all the locations hit.

One hundred sixty-seven thousand people died and many more were injured. The tsunami resulted from an earthquake of magnitude 9.3 and struck at about 6:58 am. The epicenter was about 155 miles off the coast of Banda Aceh.

Serene at Gili Trawangan island

This is the largest of the three Gili Islands with an estimated permanent population of about 800.

Most of the accommodation and other facilities on the island are on the eastern side, sheltered from the winds and rough seas of the Lombok Strait which sometimes batter the opposite side of the island. Boats dock here as well, on the beach just north of the market. This generally means a walk in the shallow water to disembark. There is also a private concrete and wood jetty used by a few companies.

A footpath circumvents the whole island and various tracks criss-cross, nearly always leading back to this coastal path. The area set back behind the east coast beachfront establishments is where most of the locals live (and where there is a lot of budget accommodation), and is known simply as "the village". There is a low lying hill in the southern centre of the island, which is easily reached from the tracks heading southwest from the back of the village.

Besides, travelers will also be presented with a special food Kupang, the jagung bose. The food is made from a mixture of corn and vegetables and whole grains (usually green beans and peanuts). There is also Se'i, a bacon or smoked pork/beef and mixed with salt and spices so the taste was sweet and salty.Se'i gets its smokey taste from how its cooked. Normally after the meat is salted it is wrapped in a bunch of banana leaves together with some spices and is smoked over an open fire. Moonlight Pavilion

The Preah Thineang Chan Chhaya or "Moonlight Pavilion", is an open-air pavilion that serves as stage for Khmer classical dance in the past and present. It is one of the most notable buildings of the palace as it easily seen from the outside as it was built alongside a section of the palace walls. The Chan Chhaya Pavilion has a balcony that was used as a platform for viewing parades marching along Sothearos Boulevard of Phnom Penh. The current Pavilion is the second incarnation of the Chanchhaya Pavilion, this one constructed in 1913-14 under King Sisowath to replace the earlier wooden pavilion built under King Norodom. The current pavilion is of a similar design as the earlier version. The Chanchhaya Pavilion dominates the facade of the Palace on Sothearos Blvd. The Pavilion serves as a venue for the Royal Dancers, as a tribune for the King to address the crowds and as a place to hold state and Royal banquets. Most recently, the Pavilion was used for a banquet and a tribune for the new King at the 2004 coronation of King Norodom Sihanomi.
